Blackheath U9 Gold      v      Workies Black U9

With bitterly cold weather, where skis could almost have been used instead of soccer boots, it was great to see a full complement of eager faces for the first game of the season against Workies Black.

Quick changes were the order of the day, and a fresh start saw plenty of good defensive work by Jason and Aaron to keep Workies at bay. Dogged attack saw the floodgates open with Oliver and Casper working well in attack. Ashton was finding space beautifully and Aaron got into the thick of the action in a promising first game. Finn kept a clean sheet for the first half,  then showed great determination in attack after being replaced in goal by the busy Ryan after the first half. Max managed to send some good passes forward and Bailey showed the way with energetic runs and tackles thwarting workies' attacks.

A great feature of the game was the teamwork - great to see this so early in the season. Running back to defend was very satisfying to see - all that cross-country skill in one team means fitness is not a problem. It showed too - with only one goal conceded! With some more supporting players finding good space for themselves, and the attacking players looking to make timely passes to them when the defence is closing in, there will be even more success.  Well done team Gold!
